Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in July 2018 were about 9.3 million metric tons (Mt), up by 9.4 percent from shipments in July 2017, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through July totaled about 55.2 Mt, up by 3.8 percent from those for the same period in 2017. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in July 2018 were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan, and these accounted for about 40 percent of the country total.
The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois) received about 37 percent of the July shipments.
Masonry cement shipments of about 228,000 metric tons in July 2018 were up by 12.9 percent from those in July 2017. For the year through July, shipments totaled 1.42 Mt, essentially unchanged from those for the same period in 2017. The leading masonry-cement-consuming states in July 2018 were Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received about 60 percent of the July shipments.
Clinker production totaled 7.3 Mt in July 2018, up slightly from the output (excluding Puerto Rico) in July 2017. For the year through July 2018, production was about 43.0 Mt, slightly higher than that of the same period in 2017. The leading clinker-producing states in July 2017 were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, and these accounted for about 48 percent of the July output.
